Bemerton Soul – The finale

As the sunset over Bingfield Park on Friday night Bemerton Soul drew to a close. Our first ever week seems to have flown by but we’ve had a great time. We had fun, we cheered, we got wet and we really, really enjoyed ourselves.
Going into the final day the Gold team were leading the way but the Blue team finished strongly and pushed them all the way to the line. In the end Gold team did enough to hang on and were worthy winners of the first ever Bemerton Soul Treasure Seeker medals. Great to see the leaders as excited as the kids about winning the competition!
One thing I might not have told you is that the last day was messy, water day. This meant the kids got slightly wet, some leaders got very wet and I got extremely wet. You’ve never truly know how fast you can run until you’ve got 30 kids chasing you with a bucket of water and a dozen wet sponges.
But what about the rest of the programme? The Arts and Crafts team made some bunting and flags to liven up the gazebos for the BBQ that night. We had the final part of the story of Captain Redbeard, this time he was prepared to sell his beloved CD collection (including Black-Bearded Peas, Girls Ahoy! and, of course, Lady Gaga) to buy a field with a big treasure chest in it. And for the last day we introduced an all new Nature activity and the kids loved looking for the “Treasure in the field” in Bingfield Park.
We finished the week off with a Barbecue on Friday night to which parents, brothers, sisters, friends and whoever else were invited along to. A chance to get to know each other better over a hot-dog or cheeseburger. And it also featured the traditional kids vs. adults tug-of-war competition. Alas the kids won but we’ll be back next year, stronger, fitter and more determined!
All in all a terrific first week. A big thanks to everyone who was involved in the inaugural Bemerton Soul and an especially big thanks to all those who came along all 3 afternoons. A truly great team and a truly great week.

Thanks for all your hard work steve. An amazing first Bemerton Soul. See you next year.
